About Me

Umang Badhwar, M.S., LLP

As a Licensed Limited Psychologist with a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology, I specialize in supporting adults who are, by most measures, managing well and yet carry a weight that makes daily life feel harder than it looks from the outside.

My clients face things like sudden job loss, difficult career transitions, the disorienting grief that comes with life change, and for many the long shadow of childhood adversity: unstable homes, poverty, abuse, or parents who couldn't give them what they needed.

I offer evidence-based, culturally sensitive care in a space that is direct, warm, and judgment-free.

Cost shouldn't be a barrier.

I set aside a limited number of reduced-fee spots each month. If cost is a concern, please mention it when you reach out — I'd rather have that conversation than have you go without support.

Insurance

Private-pay with superbill option.

I do not bill insurance directly. I can provide a monthly superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Many PPO plans cover 50–80% of out-of-network psychotherapy costs. Questions? Let's talk →

All services include a free 20-minute phone consultation. A chance to ask questions, share what's going on, and see if we're a good fit — before you decide anything.

Common Questions

Before you reach out

What's the difference between a psychotherapist and a psychologist?
A Licensed Limited Psychologist (LLP) holds a master's degree and is licensed to provide psychotherapy under Michigan law. I hold an M.S. in Counseling and am licensed as an LLP in Michigan. The distinction from a fully licensed psychologist is primarily degree level and scope of practice.
Do I have to be in crisis to reach out?
Absolutely not. Many of my clients are high-functioning and managing daily life well — but carry an underlying exhaustion, heaviness, or stuckness. You don't need to be at a breaking point to benefit from psychotherapy.
How long does psychotherapy typically take?
It varies. Some clients find 10–16 sessions sufficient for a focused issue. Others working through longer-standing childhood patterns find ongoing work more meaningful. We'll discuss this in our first sessions and revisit it regularly.
Are telehealth sessions as effective as in-person?
Research consistently shows telehealth psychotherapy is as effective as in-person for most presentations, including grief, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I offer both — we can discuss what fits best for you.
What if I can't afford your standard rate?
Please ask about sliding scale availability. I maintain a small number of reduced-fee slots each month. I'd rather have an honest conversation about cost than have it be a barrier to care.
How do the corporate workshops work?
I work with HR teams and organizational leaders to design workshops tailored to your company's specific situation — a recent layoff, ongoing restructuring, or proactively building a grief-literate culture. Delivered on-site or via video with facilitated discussion, frameworks, and Q&A. Contact me for a discovery call.
